Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

The holistic addiction treatment used at The Sands Treatment Center blends therapeutic activities to remove unhealthy, problematic thoughts and behaviors. One of the therapeutic activities The Sands Treatment Center utilizes in our treatment plan is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or “CBT” program. CBT helps addicts unlearn the thoughts and behaviors that promote or contribute to alcohol and drug addiction. These powerful, destructive thoughts are prevalent in people struggling with substance abuse; and that “all-or-nothing” thinking which adds to their sense of powerlessness and lack of control over their addiction behavior.

Faith-Based Program

Another aspect of our holistic addiction treatment is our Faith-Based Program, led by an ordained minister who is well versed in incorporating religious principles and traditions in support of a clients’ recovery process. Faith-based therapy, either one-on-one or in a group setting, helps our clients introduce a daily spiritual practice that will strengthen the recovery process for them. At The Sands Treatment Center, we place emphasis on learning healthier, more adaptive thoughts and behaviors through the psychoeducation and skills training offered in our Faith-Based Program.

Intensive Outpatient Program

If you’re interested in a different treatment choice, The Sands Treatment Center also offers an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). In The Sands Treatment Center’s IOP, clients attend therapy sessions at least three hours a day, three days per week. Also, in the IOP, physicians, psychologists, and nurses administer treatment. The benefit of these therapy sessions is that both addicts and those on the brink of addiction can receive the help they need to begin being sober. Another excellent benefit for IOP programs is that they are more cost-effective than a residential recovery program. Still, both share the same goal of sobriety and relapse prevention.

When one undergoes IOP treatment, they have two therapy options: one-on-one counseling or group therapy. Both therapy settings aim to help patients develop relapse prevention skills, as well as learning techniques of cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational enhancement therapy, or dialectical behavior therapy, depending on each person’s needs. Every person’s IOP length is different and will depend on the individual’s management towards a successful recovery from addiction.
